The weekend of January 19th, RCR had our best turnout yet as we begin to build our 2018 Corps. It was like a family reunion as our veterans came together for the first time since the end of the 2017 season in August and we welcomed a lot of extremely talented newcomers!
It was also a weekend filled with excellent music and visual instruction from our returning and new staff as we get ready to put our fourth show on the field this summer. And while we were certainly missing our veteran members who have moved on, we’re also excited that so many have been offered placement this year with some of the very best World Corps in DCI, including Colts, The Blue Stars, Bluecoats, Blue Knights, and Carolina Crown, among others!
As we continue to grow we know that with each season comes change and so on that front, RCR is extremely excited to introduce our three excellent 2018 Drum Majors – Adam Shew, Katherine Stone and Austin Meye! These three excellent members bring the knowledge gained while leading three of the strongest high school marching programs in the Upper Midwest – Rosemount (MN), Eden Prairie (MN) and Sioux Falls Lincoln (SD) to RCR this season!

Adam Shew is thrilled to join River City Rhythm for his second season! Adam currently studies music education at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities where he is an active member of The Pride of Minnesota Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and numerous other small ensembles. He is originally from Rosemount, Minnesota where he marched with the award winning Rosemount High School Marching Band and served as drum major his senior year. He is beyond excited to serve along side two amazing leaders, Austin and Katherine, and to continue his marching journey with RCR.
Katherine Stone is a current senior at Eden Prairie High School in Eden Prairie, MN, where she served as Drum Major for two years. She is also an active participant of the winter drumline, where she plays synthesizer, and the Wind Ensemble, where she is a clarinet player. Katherine will be joining the College of William & Mary class of 2022 and plans to major in chemistry. Outside of band, she enjoys traveling and photography. Katherine is thrilled to have the privilege to serve RCR this year.
Austin Meyer is a 2018 graduate of Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was a drum major for the marching band during his senior year and is very enthusiastic about his role in the drum major team for River City Rhythm. Austin was involved in upper level orchestra, choirs, and bands during high school with an emphasis on keyboard percussion and snare. He was a front ensemble section leader for Groove Pursuit’s WGI group on the MPA circuit. Austin plans to pursue music education next year. He fills any spare time with reading, biking, and attending local performances.
