Mike Olsen is a percussionist, private instructor, and freelance composer with multiple years of Front Ensemble experience in DCI and WGI; this will be his first year on staff with RCR.

Originally from Champlin, MN, Olsen received his Bachelor’s in Music from St. Cloud State University (2012) under Dr. Terry Vermillion, and his Master’s in Music from Texas Christian University (2014) under Dr. Richard Gipson and Brian West. Olsen’s past experience includes Minnesota Brass Drum & Bugle Corps (2007-2008) and The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps (2008-2010) where he served as percussion captain in 2010.

Olsen has also been involved in the WGI circuit, including Minnesota Brass Indoor (2008-2009), Music City Mystique 2010 (PIW Bronze Medalist) and 2011 (PIW Gold Medalist). He has worked with various ensembles such as Minnesota Brass Drum & Bugle Corps, The TCU Horned Frog Band, The Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps, Minnesota Brass Indoor, Clarksville Audio Theater, as well as teaching and composing for multiple high schools in Minnesota, South Dakota, Texas, and Tennessee.

Olsen resides in Nashville, Tennessee working as a freelance composer for Marching and Concert percussion and is currently instructing at LaVergne High School (LaVergne, TN).
